A decade ago, renting a piece of equipment like a skid steer or mini-excavator was something reserved for professional contractors. They were the ones with the expertise to operate it, the vehicles to haul it, and the money to rent (or buy) it. Homeowners made due with the tools they had, asked friends to help, or if the job was really big, called in the professionals.
But all of that changed when The Home Depot decided the maintenance and depreciation costs related to towable equipment wasn’t sustainable. At the time, Compact Power was a small equipment rental company looking to grow. Company founder and CEO Roger Braswell envisioned the collaboration between the Home Depot and Compact Power that still exists today. Compact Power would own, maintain, and repair all of the machines, while The Home Depot hosted an onsite “parking lot” of equipment available to rent.
Now, ten years later, Compact Power is found in more than 1,000 Home Depot locations and offering VIP Onsite Delivery in 43 markets. Everyone from professional contractors to weekend warriors can easily rent the equipment they need to install French drains, clean their gutters or build retaining walls.
