If you’re thinking about putting your home on the market next year, it doesn’t mean you should wait until then to get ready to sell. Sure you could do all of your projects at once, but do you want to worry about making home improvements while you’re prepping the property to be sold? Probably not.

So to help, we’ve pulled together big-ticket items that can improve your home’s resale value before you sell:

  • Clean the siding – Freshening up the home’s exterior will give you great ROI. Once a potential buyer pulls up to your home, they’ll notice the extra work and care taken to maintain your home. It’ll go a long way. If you’re a heavy duty DIYer rent aerial equipment, like a boom lift, for this job. It’ll get you where you need to go safely and with a full range of motion.
  • Add outdoor living – Potential buyers love homes with outdoor space. Don’t have a patio or deck at your current home? Consider adding one. Start with a Terex skid steer to make hauling building materials and digging on the worksite easy.
  • Fix up the driveway – You probably don’t notice your driveway half the time. Maybe it’s cracked in some places or you’ve patched it with gravel. It’s not pretty but it still gets the job done. Buyers won’t look at it that way. Make sure your driveway isn’t a selling deterrent before you sell. Toro mini skid steers are a great start for a project like this to help get the job done.
  • Install a new front door – Although a smaller project, replacing the front door can be a major improvement. This relatively low-cost project adds value to your home and makes it more welcoming. Tip: select a door in a neutral color. Buyers can paint it themselves and add a personal touch. Giving them a blank slate is a great idea.

If you’re planning to sell your home in 2017, outdoor improvement projects, like these, will add value to your home when you’re ready to put it on the market. But this isn’t a full list; other projects like landscaping, installing new windows or even decorating differently can have a positive impact. Just be sure to plan enough time to get everything done so you aren’t rushing to finish!
