There’s pride to be had in a perfectly maintained lawn. Green grass, blossoming flowerbeds, and trimmed hedges that are the envy of fellow neighbors in the spring and summer begins with year-round maintenance. Fall’s cooling temperatures provide crisp mornings and afternoons to give your outdoor areas some TLC. The Home Depot Rental has tools available at your convenience to help you keep a healthy, thriving yard that increases your curb appeal.

Tree Stump Removal

Tree stumps can cause a mess of problems in an otherwise pristine lawn. They can attract unwanted insects, promote new tree growth and pose as a nuisance or hazard for children playing or adults trying to mow or weed the lawn. And, let’s face it, they’re pretty unsightly.

To rid your yard of small tree stumps with ease, you can rent a Yanmar TLB. To get that pesky stump removed completely with a loader backhoe, dig up and around the stump first in efforts to loosen its hold in the ground. Then, wrap a heavy chain around the remaining trunk. Attach the chain to the backhoe and drive the machine away from the stump's location to pull it up. Alternatively, you can attach the chain to the bucket arm and lift the stump out of the ground.

Once the stump has been removed, you can restructure the area for a garden, birdhouse or other attractive yard ware. But, don’t waste the wood from the stump! If the wood is healthy and not decayed, you can rent a chipper shredder and utilize the resulting wood chips as mulch or a natural fertilizer for your lawn and gardens.

Lawn Aeration

Your lawn needs a breath of fresh air every now and then, too. Practicing proper aeration techniques is the key to healthy green grass as it helps loosen compacted soil, which allows better flow of air, water and nutrients to the roots. If you have cool-season grass, including fescue and bluegrass, early fall (August to October) is the best time to aerate.

For the best results, rent a plug aerator which removes a plug of grass and soil as opposed to just poking holes (a method that can counteract aeration by further compressing soil in certain areas). Rent a Toro aerator and make multiple passes over your lawn, ensuring the most productive aeration. Proper care this fall guarantees a beautiful lawn this spring.
